Sarah Aghazarmian: roving performer Newtown Fest/FUTURE
- Ex-student and now performer/ emerging artist @ Gener8or
Gener8or has offered me a large range of opportunities as a young performer. With unique and intense training in comedy and roving character performance, Karo has proved to be an amazing tutor and director who has helped me improve my skills as a performer colossally. I have had many fantastic opportunities through Gener8or with working in a highly professional work environment as a performer which is quite rare for a young person. Gener8or is definitely a company I will be continuing to work with as I build a career within the theatre media field.
Sarah Beetson: Visual Artist
I first met Karo Tak in The Garden of Unearthly Delights. I was in Adelaide with my 3rd solo exhibition “YOU ARE NOT WHAT YOU EAT”, which was part of The Fringe program. We both felt there was an instant connection between us. In 2008, I toured my 2nd solo exhibition “50 Bucks: Bring on The Sluts”, from Melbourne to London, Portland and New York City, creating almost 500 small works inspired by vintage pornography. The show in Melbourne had featured Australia’s 1st Art Vending Machine, donated by Pepsi Cola, which I adorned with paintings from vintage Pepsi commercials, Karo and I mused about what could feasibly be sold out of my machine, and we had the idea of how cool it’d be to have it sitting in The Garden of Unearthly Delights, selling pot-luck Adelaide Fringe tickets to punters having trouble making decisions about which shows to see. Karo thought this was such a fabulous idea that it was worth pitching to the event director to see if they’d be interested. The director of the Garden actually was and entered an ebay bid with just 12 hours to go, which suddenly unleashed an all out bidding war on ebay – with a number of bids from several buyers in the dying seconds, which saw the machine won, incidentally by a local Adelaide businessman, for a cracking $1,526. Sadly The Garden missed out, but luckily for me, the fees were substantial enough to cover the work involved in the creation of the machine. I am convinced that without Karo’s input and influence, the machine would’ve sold for a few hundred dollars and I would have lost what is to me a small fortune, as well as suffering the heartbreak of losing my prized vending machine. I also asked Karo to attend the Fringe award ceremony on my behalf, which she accepted. Again, I’m not sure if this would’ve transpired without Karo’s energy, enthusiasm and input. http://sarahbeetson.blogspot.com/
Jasmine Matus: roving performer GREEN MAN PROJECT/SIFF
I have been fortunate to work with Karo on numerous roving performance projects on and off over the past year. As a non-actor, working with Karo has taught me a lot about the fundamental principals of acting and performing. She applies a range of different methods and techniques with charisma and a good sense of humor that are evident to her background experience as an actor. Karo has a strong ability to co-ordinate a multitude of events and large groups of people with enthusiasm and energy simply because she loves the challenge and clearly enjoys what she does. Karo has the capacity to think outside the square and creatively pushes the boundaries of what is possible in the acting world. She is forever positive and encouraging. Her ability to work with a diverse palette of performers from all walks of life is remarkable. Karo actively engages with others, this is based on her inherent curiosity, an empathetic nature and a belief that every situation and everyone has something worthwhile to offer.
Vashti Pontaks: roving performer/PA GREEN MAN PROJECT/SIFF
I have had the pleasure of working as a performer/artist with Karo Tak, on two large theatre performance events this year, which Karo was Director & facilitator for in Sydney with Gener8or.
As a director and facilitator I found Karo instantly engaging with an infectious level of energy and natural ability to communicate & explore creative ideas with a team.
Karo directed me as an actor for number of different characters, performing to massive international and local audiences at the World Cup Fifa Fan Fest. I highly respect Karo’s magnanimous ability & approach as a director and facilitator. I especially respect the way she works alongside her actors and coworkers to get the best results, always including & inspiring ideas from each person.
She has a versatile approach as a curator to collaborate & develop a clear finished product yet with an instant adaptability to create & give on the spot direction to suit varying on site conditions that enhance performance and stimulate audience response and experience.
Karo’s direction has influenced my entire approach to site- specific work and to the specificity & range of roving character work. I found her to be a great and inspiring director capable of producing a wide caliber of professional works with everyone that she works with.
I would love to have the opportunity to work with Karo again in any capacity. She is a fantastic creative with a boundless amount of motivation, positivity and artistic integrity.
